When trying to determine which chimney cap is best for the job, you must consider the configuration of the chimney, and any flue(s) in it.

For example, a multi-flue chimney cap would look much nicer on the picture shown at right than a small, single flue cap on the photo at right. In this scenario, either would fit and either would help protect the chimney against rain, birds and animals - but a larger multi flue cap with a base size closely matching the chimney casing measurement would best compliment the architecture of the home.

Single Flue Chimney Caps are most often used for a masonry chimney containing a single flue (the opening in the chimney) and when there is a raised tile liner that extends above the mortar crown. Measure the length and width of the OUTSIDE of the clay tile liner:  Width = _____________  Length = ____________ Single flue styles are adjustable within a couple of inches on each side because they are attached with slotted hex bolts that offer some installation flexibility. ____________________________________________ A multi-flue chimney cap attaches to the mortar crown surrounding your flue tile liner(s). This style is best if      * the flue tile liner does not extend more than 2" above the chimney mortar crown  * there is more than one flue in the chimney  * the chimney flue us unlined. These caps are sized by the "screen-to-screen" size; screen to screen size must exceed the opening(s) of your flues. **The mounting flanges extend 1-1/2" on each side of the cap, so make sure your "C" and "D" measurements allow adequate space for these mounting flanges.
