For fireplace openings considerably larger than the dimensions shown below, here's our trick for making them look great: just paint the inside of your fireplace with (High Temp) black paint. The black fireplace fades into your opening. Try sliding the insert well back into your fireplace for a more realistic style.
Installing an electric insert is not a permanent alteration(unless you want it to be). If you ever want to burn a real wood fire, simply slide out the electric insert - it only weighs a few pounds - open your fireplace damper and build a wood fire.
NOTE: the "fire" effect on this model is somewhat darker than our critical eyes we would prefer, but since it uses LED lights it's not practical to install a higher watt bulb for added brightness. However, at a $300 savings this is probably a shortcoming that's easily overlooked.
